Simple foot care tips for this monsoon
Monsoon brings relief from the blistering and scorching heat of the summer and revives and rejuvenates your spirits. Although it brings joy and happiness, they do bring lots of skin related problems as well. These bacterial infections can not only damage the skin but can also affect tissues and ligaments if left untreated. The deeper tissues of fascia and ligaments can get infected if your personal hygiene and sanitation is not up to the mark. So, you need to take special care of your feet in monsoon to guard against fungal infections and conditions such as Athlete’s feet.
Tips for foot care in monsoon
Avoid sweat – As feet sweat a lot during monsoon, closed footwear can harm them a lot. Avoid shoes that close in your feet. Slippers, waterproof sandals and clogs are preferable in this season. Keep your feet sweat free by applying talcum powder. The moisture in monsoon can affect you foot nails too. To enhance the effectiveness of talcum powder, mix it with camphor powder before applying on your feet. Do this always before wearing your shoes and after removing them.
Exfoliate – Use a foot scrubber or pumice stone to remove the dead skin from your feet regularly. The dead skin cells tend to harden your feet and cause cracks. If exfoliating the skin yourself seems burdensome, you can get a pedicure once a week. This will keep your feet clean and devoid of dead skin.
Keep your feet moisturized – Always use moisturiser on your feet after washing. Olive oil or almond oil can also be effective as moisturiser. Almond oil is a natural foot lotion which should be applied before sleeping.
Dry your footwear in sun – Your wet shoes, sandals or any other form of footwear should not be kept in shade for drying. Keeping them under the bed or in the shoe rack would breed a lot of bacteria, especially if they are wet. Dry the shoes out in sun instead as sunrays are most effective in killing bacteria and prevent foot infections.
Foot therapy – There are many choices available for you if you want to look after your feet well. Foot soaks, scrubs and healing creams are available aplenty. A foot soak is one that is added to warm water, after which its salt beads and fresh aqua scent helps to relax and cleanse your feet. Foot scrubs contain healing oils such as that of jojoba and sunflower along with vitamin E. They replenish the moisture lost and also make your footpad supple. If you have a taste for keeping even your toes pretty, get a foot scrub.
