Make Face Powder At Home!

Homemade face powder recipes:

Mix ½tbsp cornstarch with 1tsp baby powder in a bowl. Cornstarch is a thick powder that lasts longer on the face. Baby powder and cornstarch makes a soft mix that is best for the skin. Apply a little on your face to feel fresh. You can add few drops of an aromatic essence if you want to make the powder smell good.
In a bowl, mix 1tsp green clay powder with 1tbsp cornstarch. Green clay is mostly used in making face packs. You can use it to make homemade face powder too! When mixed with cornstarch, green clay hides dark spots from the skin and opens the skin pores. You can either apply with a makeup puff or a brush to look fresh any time of the day.
Take 1tsp beetroot powder, 1/2tsp mica and 2 ounces arrowroot powder. Mix them together. Now slowly add 5-8 drops of lavender essential oil (one drop at a time based on your requirement). Also add the powders in little quantities to suit your skin tone. Apply the homemade powder on your face and check if it is matching with your skin tone or not. Add more amount of these ingredients if required.
If you want to make a foundation powder at home, do not go for harsh chemical products. Just mix cornstarch with cocoa powder. While adding cocoa powder, see that the powder matches with your skin tone. Slowly add a little amount and mix. If required, add more in the bowl. Mix well so that no lumps are formed. Store it in a box and use whenever required. This mineral powder gives a better effect of a foundation than the others because of the cocoa powder.
One of the easiest ways to make a natural foundation is to apply non-scented baby powder on the face. Just take the powder in your palms and then press it on your skin. Baby powder sets on the face and absorbs moisture. Thus the skin looks fresh and dry. This is an ideal face powder to beat the summer heat. You can also mix the non-scented baby powder with a compact. If you have a broken cake of a compact or foundation powder, just crush it finely and mix with the baby powder.

TIP #3: THE WRONG MAKEUP CAN MAKE ACNE WORSE: “People with acne cannot use heavy foundations and oily concealers, period. I’ve had several celebrity clients whose acne did not clear up until I personally spoke to their makeup artists—all that heavy TV makeup was ruining my carefully prescribed skincare regimen. Every major makeup company now makes oil-free and non-comedogenic foundations. People with very oily skin can use mineral foundations, which keep skin matte longer,” advises Dr. Jaliman.

TIP #4: DON’T WAIT UNTIL WRINKLES APPEAR TO START USING ANTIAGING PRODUCTS: “Collagen production starts decreasing in the late twenties, so that’s when people should start using retinols, antioxidants and collagen boosters, especially around the eyes,” says Jaliman.

TIP #5: STORE YOUR MAKEUP AND SKINCARE PRODUCTS IN THE FRIDGE: “The warm, steamy environment of the bathroom makes products deteriorate faster. If you have very expensive creams or have bought several jars of lipsticks that you don’t use every day, keep them in the fridge for best results,” recommends Dr. Jaliman.

European skincare market seeing rapid growth
















The European skincare market is witnessing a rise in demand for professional treatments.

New figures show that there has been a four per cent growth in professional skincare treatment sales since 2011, as it begins to near pre-recessionary peak levels.

Consumers are returning to salons and spas for treatments, according to market analyst Kline & Company, with many keen on finding the best skincare advice, Professional Beauty reports.

Skincare product sales through these venues represent almost 60 per cent of the market in Europe, rising 3.7 per cent over the past year.

Spas and salons are stimulating a higher number of sales of skincare products, the research suggests, as brands look to attract customers through social media sites and mobile devices, many of which have handy apps to give tips and ideas.

More interactive skincare companies were found to have performed best as they could better engage with their customers, meaning they get improved treatments with the clearest information and product background.

This means you needn't worry what ingredients are in your products, as, with clearer websites, businesses are becoming more open and keener to share when they're using better oils and natural components.

Strong gains were found for 2011, particularly for brands which used multiple different venues to sell their products through, allowing more people to see the product in action and hear great reviews.

An increase in demand for skincare products has been reported in Europe, however elsewhere growth has been even higher.

In China and South Korea the skincare industry has grown by 9.3 per cent 9.5 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, US sales have witnessed a slight decline as spas look to concentrate on a few key brands.

Summer beauty is no sweat with these skincare tips














If the intense heat and humidity blanketing much of the country finds you looking shiny and feeling frazzled, a few tips for looking fresh and stylish should have you chilling in no time.

“Simple styling in the summer heat is always best…Hair pulled back and clean makeup are timeless and fuss-free,” says fashion designer Joeffer Caoc, who also recommends wearing dresses and separates made of easy-fitting, wrinkle-resistant knit fabrics such as mesh and jersey.

Cool, clean-looking makeup usually starts with a light-handed application and includes switching to lighter makeup and skin care products which won’t slide off with the heat and humidity.

Some products are designed to help control excessively shiny, oily skin which becomes more prevalent in hot weather.

“Summertime heat and humidity causes sebaceous glands to step up their oil production making that ‘shine-free’ look difficult to achieve. I tell my patients to modify their skin care routine, using oil free products and often omitting a daily moisturizer,” says Dr. Katie Rodan, a dermatologist based in Oakland, California, and a co-founder of the Proactiv skin care line.


“Using oil blotting sheets as needed during the day can lessen shine so they (patients) won’t be tempted to wash their face more than twice daily. Believe it or not, over-cleansing can result in greater oil production over time,” adds Rodan.

Using makeup primer and mattifying base products and switching to oil-free and gel-based makeup formulas can also help achieve a polished summer look, as can finishing one’s makeup application with a light dusting of bronzer or powder.

“To achieve a beautiful summer look on a hot humid day, use bronzing powder along the temples and cheekbones…across the bridge of the nose and on the apples of the cheeks for a natural sun-kissed healthy glow,” suggests Rebecca Restrepo, a global makeup artist for Elizabeth Arden.

Changing your lip, cheek and mascara products can also help maintain a long lasting, smudge-free appearance.

“To achieve long lasting, smudge and budge-free lip and cheek colour during extreme humidity, smooth The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain in Rose Pink or Bronze Glimmer onto your lips and cheeks,” suggests celebrity makeup artist Chase Aston, who is based in London, England.

Liquid lip colours, which combine the luster of gloss with the staying power of lipstick or lip stain, also provide long wearing colour.

Waterproof mascaras and eyeliners are good choices as they’re designed not to smear, but opting to wear false lashes offers a sure way to avoid mascara meltdown.

Finally, don’t forget to apply sunblock, and if you wear fragrance switch from heavily scented perfumes to lightly scented colognes and eau de toilettes during the warm weather, as fragrance tends to amplify in the heat.

“We change to lighter weight fashions and fabrics in the summer, and should do the same with our fragrance. Leave the heavier vanilla and spicy fragrances for the cold weather and wear fresh, clean, crisp and tart scents in the summer,” recommends Marian Bendeth, a global fragrance expert with Sixth Scents.

1.The night before the flight treat your skin to an invigorating exfoliation and soothing face mask. 2. The morning of the trip, gently wash your face and moisturise. If you have time place an eye mask that has been cooled overnight around the eye – this will help wake up the eyes. After 10 minutes place a primer onto the skin, as this will work to
help your make-up last all day and ease any redness.

3. How to keep your skin glowing during monsoon












After a hot and sweaty summer, the monsoon comes as a relief but the humid and damp weather takes a toll on the skin and eyes. Experts advise how small changes in the skin care routine during the season can keep the skin glowing and eyes fresh.

Monsoon brings humidity and it`s bad news for all type of skins:

Oily Skin

The skin type is mainly the result of genetically determined hormonal changes. To treat oily skin one needs to remove excess oil by cleansing it twice or thrice a day, but not more than that.

"Limit washing your face to two or three times a day as too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil. Avoid heavy cleansing creams. Scrub your face on a regular basis. This will help unclog the pores and remove the layer of dead cells from your skin," cosmetic surgeon Anup Dhir told IANS.

It is advised to use warm water while washing face as it dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water.

Other than that, one also uses mud-pack. Homemade pack made with "Chane ka atta and raw milk" can help in keeping skin refreshing and glowing.

Dryness is a sign of dehydration and lack of skin repairing vitamins. During monsoon the problem worsens. One requires cream based cleanser, says Dr. Geetika Mittal, medical director of the International Skin and Anti-Aging Centre (ISAAC).
"A moisturizer increases the water content of the outer layers of the skin and gives it a soft, moist look and it is always advised one with dry skin opt for alcohol free toner," said Mittal.

Also, apply glycerin and rose water mixture to keep skin soft.

Combination Skin

This type of skin is characterised with the T-portion as oily and the cheeks are usually normal or dry in condition. Since it combines both the oily and dry skin it should be treated as if it were two different types of skin, said Dhir.

"The dry area requires gentle cleansing and regular moisturizing. The oily part needs to be deeply cleansed and toned with regular scrubbing," Dhir told IANS.

Moonsoon also brings skin infections

Fungal and bacterial infections are common during rainy season. Moist and damp skin leads to these infections. Also, one can get rashes and ringworm and even skin gets discoloured.

Dhir advises keeping the body dry is the basic tip to tackle the infections.

"Switch to cotton clothes as they allow your body to breathe. Allow damp hair to dry before you tie them again. To circumvent allergies from mosquito bites, wear full-sleeved clothes and use a mosquito repellent cream and head for air-conditioned rooms. Bathe twice a day to keep the problems at bay," he added.

Eye Infection

With rains come puddles of dirty water and eye infections soar. But, with a bit of prevention, you could stay safe, says Mahipal Sachdev, chairman and medical director, centre for Sight group of Eye Hospitals.

"Close your eyes when you decide to get soaked in the rain as it screens off atmospheric pollutants. While the rain water is reasonably clean, but you need to be wary of the rain water if you stand under a tree or a building, as it can be contaminated with pollutants, which could increase eye infections," said Sachdev.

Emphasizing on hygienic practices, Sachdev advises how conjunctivitis and stye could be avoided.

"These infections are contagious and can be easily transmitted via towels, handkerchiefs, lenses, glasses and other articles handled during the course of daily activities. To avoid infection, you need to ensure that you do not share articles of personal use with anyone else," he said.

Eye infections result in redness of eyes and watery discharge. One should use an antibiotic eye drop to treat eye infections, but only after it has been prescribed by an ophthalmologist. Use of contact lenses should be avoided during any kind of infection in the eye.
